- As family, clerics, others hold 13th Year remembrance prayer for late Oloye
The 13th anniversary remembrance prayer for the late political icon and philanthropist, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, was held on Friday at his GRA residence in Ilorin, drawing dignitaries, political associates, and followers of the Saraki political structure from across the state and beyond.
The annual prayer, consistently organized by the children of the late Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin Emirate, was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Bashir Solih, alongside a delegation of prominent Islamic clerics who offered special prayers for the repose of Baba Oloye’s soul and for the family he left behind, headed by his son, former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Delivering the lecture at the event, renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Suleiman Danboronu, paid glowing tribute to the late elder statesman, describing his death as a profound loss not only to Ilorin but also to Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
He urged parents to train their children in a manner that ensures continuity of good deeds long after they are gone, citing the Saraki family as an example.
According to him, Baba Oloye uplifted countless individuals “from nobody to somebody” without ever seeking reward or personal benefit.
“Baba Saraki never expected anything from people except from his Creator,” he said.
“Whatever you offered him as a gift, he already had it in abundance. His generosity, kindness, and sacrifice for the development of his community and this state remain unmatched in our history.”
Danboronu further emphasized that the enduring impact of the late political titan is strengthened by the presence of a worthy successor in Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
“Everything Baba Saraki did was good, but without a heir like Dr. Bukola Saraki, much of it would not have manifested in the way we see today,” he noted.
“People value you when you are present and beneficial, and in your absence, they naturally turn elsewhere.”
The cleric added that the late Saraki’s life of service, philanthropy, and commitment to the people will continue to be remembered and celebrated for generations.
The event also featured prayers for continued peace, unity, and progress within the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State.
