Surveyors in Kwara State are calling on governments at all levels to involve them in policy-making, security planning, and infrastructure development.

The call was made during the 2026 Global Surveyors Day, organised by the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Kwara State Branch, under the theme: “From Service Provider to Policy Influencer: Redefining the Role of Surveyors in Governance.”

Chairman of the occasion, Surveyor Yemi Bobadoye, urged surveyors to restore the dignity of their profession, highlighting their key role in urban planning and infrastructure.

Keynote speaker, Prof. Amuda Yusuf Ganiyu, called for collaboration between government and surveyors to tackle insecurity and stressed that younger professionals must learn from senior surveyors.

Guest Lecturer, Surveyor Haruna Abdullahi, Acting Surveyor-General of Kwara State, said surveying has shifted from analogue to digital and real-time spatial intelligence, and announced plans for a digital land registry.

Awards were presented to Prof. Ganiyu and Surveyor Abdullahi, while a student presentation contest between University of Ilorin and Federal Polytechnic Offa showcased emerging talent.

The programme began with a rally on Friday and concluded on Saturday with free medical treatment for residents and a technical session for professionals.
