The House of Representatives aspirant for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, Hon. Mopelola AbdulMalik Bashir ( Eleniyan), has jetted out to Abuja in what political associates describe as part of intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development is linked to a series of high level engagements expected to further consolidate her expanding political network within and beyond Kwara State, as early positioning within the All Progressives Congress (APC) begins to take shape.
Mopelola, a former Commissioner for Women Affairs and former Commissioner for Water Resources in Kwara State, has in recent weeks widened her political footprint beyond local engagements, riding on growing momentum around her ambition to represent Ilorin West/Asa at the National Assembly.
Her campaign, anchored on grassroots mobilisation and inclusive governance, continues to gain traction across Ilorin West and Asa, with increasing support from women groups, youth coalitions, and community stakeholders who describe her as a “people driven” candidate.
She currently serves as Gender Coordinator of Kwara Must Change, a civic and pro-democracy movement known for its strong advocacy on gender equity and political inclusion.
The group played a notable role in the push for the Kwara State Gender Composition Law/Framework, which guarantees a minimum of 35% representation for each gender in political appointments in the state.
Political observers say her trip to Abuja marks a strategic phase in her campaign, as aspirants typically engage party leaders, power brokers, and national stakeholders in the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen internal positioning ahead of primaries.

Her political structure has also been associated with youth mobilisation efforts that contributed to the emergence of Rukayat Shittu, reinforcing her growing profile as a mobiliser of new political actors.
While the Ilorin West/Asa race remains open, analysts note that Mopelola’s increasing visibility, both locally and in Abuja, signals a more structured and nationally attuned campaign strategy.
As consultations intensify, the constituency is steadily emerging as one of the most closely watched political battlegrounds in Kwara State ahead of 2027, with Abuja now becoming a critical hub for behind the scenes political alignments.
