- Urges Government to Take Proactive Measures as Kidnapping Cases Spread Across Neighboring States
The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, popularly known as OmoAkin, has expressed concern over the recent wave of kidnappings across several states in the Southwest, urging the Osun State Government to take proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.
In a statement issued to mark the beginning of the new month, OmoAkin noted that the recent kidnapping incidents reported in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Ogun States have heightened security concerns across the region and should serve as a wake-up call for stakeholders in Osun State.
The youth leader observed that although Osun has remained relatively peaceful, the state’s geographical proximity to some of the affected states makes it imperative for government and security agencies to strengthen preventive security measures before criminal elements infiltrate local communities.
According to him, recent developments across the Southwest indicate a growing need for increased vigilance and enhanced security coordination among neighboring states.

He specifically called on the Osun State Government to intensify surveillance operations, strengthen intelligence gathering mechanisms, and reinforce security presence in border communities and other vulnerable areas across the state.
OmoAkin further advocated for closer collaboration between conventional security agencies, local security outfits, traditional institutions, and community leaders to ensure timely detection and prevention of criminal activities.
“The security challenges confronting neighboring states should not be ignored. Osun must remain ahead of potential threats through proactive planning, effective intelligence gathering, and sustained community engagement,” he stated.
The NYCN Chairman also appealed to residents, particularly young people, to remain security-conscious and report suspicious movements and activities within their communities to appropriate authorities.
He emphasized that maintaining security is a collective responsibility that requires active participation from citizens alongside the efforts of government and security agencies.
While calling for stronger security measures, OmoAkin urged authorities to continue investing in youth empowerment, employment opportunities, and skills acquisition programmes, noting that addressing unemployment and poverty remains critical to reducing crime and insecurity.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Osun State Government and security agencies to sustain the state’s peaceful atmosphere if decisive and preventive actions are taken.
The NYCN Chairman subsequently wished residents of the state a peaceful and productive new month and reiterated the commitment of the youth council to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across Osun State.
