Avoid Quacks, Engage Qualified Surveyors, NIS tells Nigerians

Chairman of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) Kwara state chapter, Surveyor O. Lere, has urged Nigerians to avoid quacks in handling their structures and always engage qualified surveyors in their building projects to ensure quality work and avoid building collapse.

Speaking in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, while marking the 2025 Global Surveyors’ Day, Surveyor Lere stated that surveyors and survey plans are Vital in any building construction all over the world.

He added that surveyors are indispensable experts needed for accuracy in infrastructural planning and development across all sectors of the nation.

The NIS chairman advised surveyors to take their place as the foundation of development, while calling on all Surveyors in the State to go for retraining to acclimatise themselves with modern Surving Techniques.

He call for more involvement of the government in the institution, but noted that the institution is working tirelessly to turn the clock around and ensure that surveyors are accorded their rightful place by the government.

Similarly, Surveyor Ipadeola Oyedapo of University of Ilorin said Surveyor Business should not die after the death of a Surveyor and that Surveyors should invest in Workforce training and Development.

Other Key Note Speakers at the event include Surveyor Ishola Mobolaji Issa, Surveyor Abdullahi Haruna, Surveyor Dahir. M. Omar.

Other Surveying subgroups present at the occasion are Young Surveyor Network (YSN), Women in Surveying (WIS), Government Office Surveyors, Association of private practicing Surveyors Of Nigeria (APPSN) and National Association of Surveying and Geoinformatics Lecturers (NASGL).
