Bamikole Writes Omipidan, alleges falsehood

Dear Mr. Omipidan,

You lied, APC and Your Master, Oyetola are the people trying to set Osun State on fire as a vendetta against the people for voting you out

I read your recent article, “Testing the will of the court: Who are Gov. Adeleke’s Advisers?” with interest. However, I must address several inaccuracies and misconceptions presented.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has consistently demonstrated commitment to upholding the rule of law. His administration’s decision to support OSSIEC to proceed with the local government elections is rooted in legal precedents and a desire to ensure democratic representation at the grassroots level. Notably, an Osun State High Court in Ilesa recently ordered the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to conduct elections to fill the vacant positions of local government chairmen and councilors across the 30 local governments in the state.

It is also important to clarify the context surrounding the advisory issued by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi. As you are aware, the AGF previously served as the LEAD counsel to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola during the 2022 election tribunal, which he lost woefully. While this does not necessarily imply bias, it does raise questions about the neutrality of his advisory, particularly given that Mr Fagbemi’s advice does not carry the weight of a court order. Various groups have rightfully pointed out that such an advisory by AGF cannot override a judicial directive.

Also, your article clearly shows your bias, because you omitted the fact that the AGF remained silent on the recent Appeal Court ruling favoring the Action People’s Party (APP) in suit FHC/OS/CS/103/2022. This selective interpretation undermines the credibility of the AGF’s stance and raises concerns about potential partisan motivations.

As a deputy editor and supposed head of politics of a reputable newspaper like The Sun Newspaper, resorting to unfounded allegations detracts from constructive discourse. This leaves one with no choice but to assume that what you are engaging in is “brown paper journalism.” It is imperative that journalists maintain objectivity, especially on matters affecting the collective well-being of Osun State’s citizens. I strongly believe this is an attempt by you to try to cozy yourself with your former boss, Oyetola, who did not deem it fit to offer you employment as his aide in ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. And who will blame him? Your performance as always being subpar, one of the reasons the incumbent lost re-election woefully.

The people of Osun State have exercised their democratic rights by overwhelmingly defeating you and your principal in the 2022 elections and reaffirming their choice in the recent local government elections. It is essential to honor their decisions. Attempts to subvert the will of Osun people through backdoor maneuvers and setting the state ablaze by your parties attempt to hijack local government secretariats not only disrespect the voters but also jeopardize the state’s democratic fabric.

If you wish to remain as a deputy editor of a reputable platform like The Sun, I urge you to approach sensitive topics of voters rights with a balanced perspective, ensuring that personal biases do not overshadow factual reporting. The future of Osun State depends on our collective commitment to truth, justice, and the rule of law.

Sincerely,

Bamikole Omishore
Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke
