Digital Regulation, Threat to Press Freedom – Modibo Kawu

The former Director General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, has restated his commitment towards promoting press freedom, noting that he will oppose any law to regulate digital platforms by government.

He noted that such laws are unconstitutional and threat to freedom of expression.

Modibbo Kawu however implored Online Journalists to uphold journalistic ethics and standards.

He stated this recently when he hosted the members of Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), to Iftar at his Ilorin residence.

Modibbo Kawu however called for continuous training and capacity building for journalists using digital platforms to disseminate their contents.

ASKOMP Chairman and Publisher of Informant247, Taofeek Salihu, applauded the contributions of the former NBC boss to journalism in Nigeria.

His words: “We count it as privilege to interact with you today. I also want to acknowledge your contributions and dedication to journalism profession in Kwara State and Nigeria.”

Salihu also lauded the former Daily Trust Editor for his insightful contributions and prayed for his continued strength and impact in the industry.
