Sons and daughters of Ijesaland have inaugurated the Ijesaland Independent Development Monitors, IIDM, with a charge on them to ensure they keep tab on local government executives and assist them to deliver on their mandates.
The presentation and inauguration of the Independent Development Monitors, IIDM, members held on Saturday, October 04, 2024, during the Ijesaland Stakeholders Conference, at the Owa Palace civic center, in Ilesa.
Chairman of the Ijesa Community Development Association, ICDA, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, while speaking at the event, said the IIDM members are to enhance good governance, transparency, and accountability in the use and application of public resources especially at the six local government areas in Ijesaland.
While stressing the need to address the challenges bedeviling government at the grassroots, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, said the development is in line with the call by President Bola Tinubu, asking citizens to participate actively in governance following the recent ruling of the Supreme Court which granted autonomy to the local governments.
Asiwaju Fasuyi added that the IIDM will guide against unnecessary distractions and pitfalls that pushes many political office holders into the web of anti graft agencies.
Fasuyi, who also chairs the Steering Committee of IIDM, urged members to be diligent in carrying out the assignments in order to enhance the development of Ijesaland.
Speaking on behalf of others after taking oath of office, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated IIDM committee and former Statistician-General of Nigeria, Dr Adigun Adewoye, lauded the initiative by ICDA.
He assured that IIDM will remain apolitical in their work as independent community response monitoring mechanism.
Other members are Sir Ademola Aladekomo, Dr Olusanya Olujide Atakumosa, Barr funmi Obisan, Dr Oluremi Folorunso, Ayodeji Odeyemi and Tobi Adeleye.
Traditional rulers across Ijesaland, artisans and representatives of various sectors were present at the event.
