The Kwara Rescue Team has strongly condemned Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for what they describe as a blatant disregard for a court order concerning the disputed Ile-Arugbo land, formerly owned by the late Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.
The controversy surrounding the Ile-Arugbo property dates back to January 2, 2020, when Governor AbdulRazaq allegedly ordered the demolition of structures on the land without prior notice or a court order.
According to the Kwara Rescue Team, this action led to a violent confrontation where security agents reportedly used live ammunition against peaceful protesters, including elderly women.
Justice A.O. Akinpelu had previously issued a court order prohibiting any development on the land until the case’s resolution.
However, the Kwara Rescue Team argues that the latest actions by the governor represent a continued disregard for this court order and a troubling use of state power for personal vendettas, undermining the rule of law and citizens’ rights.
In their statement, the Kwara Rescue Team called on the Kwara State Government to immediately cease all construction activities at Ile-Arugbo and adhere to the court’s directive.
They urged the government to respect the legal undertaking and to uphold political integrity, economic development, social advancement, and unity within Kwara State.
“The ongoing defiance of a court order and the use of state power to perpetuate personal interests reflect a serious breach of democratic principles and legal standards,” the team’s statement read. “We remain committed to advocating for the rule of law and ensuring that the rights of citizens are protected.”
