Political parties have been urged to ensure that women are not denied their rightful place in politics and decision making as the nation prepares to elect new representatives into positions of authority.
Stakeholders said political parties must ensure that considerable size of women are included in intra-party activities and fully supported in the elections for any position they are vying for.
This formed part of the resolutions reached at a stakeholders meeting with representatives of all political parties held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Idrab Inn and Suites, Mandate area, Ilorin.
The event was organized by Nuhu Fatimoh, NUFAT, Foundation, and sponsored by Global Affairs Canada and ActionAids Nigeria.
Speaking at the stakeholders meeting, one of the facilitators, Mrs Folashade Aransiola, rued the marginalization of the women folks in elective positions and decision making.

While noting that political parties play a key role in paving way for the women in internal democracy as well as the ladder to elective positions, she charged party representatives to ensure their respective political parties give room for the advancement of the course of women folks.
Aransiola charged them to go back to their parties and step down the enlightenment, saying an opportunity for a woman in a political party enhances their chance of victory at the polls.
Political party representatives, numbering about 40, who took turn to speak, pledged to give support to the female gender and curtail all forms of marginalization.

Speaking, the CEO of NUFAT Foundation, Dr. Asiat Ayinke Saka, said that the NGO is advocating for women to lead, participate in politics, and be able to make decisions.
She noted that the stakeholders meeting became imperative in view of the upbeat in political activities ahead of the 2023 General elections.
The women advocate added that the sensitization project has really aroused women from their slumber, resulting in more women contesting for elective positions this dispensation when compared to the last.
