– Government Lauds Foundation’s Role
– NGO donates child care items to ministry, pledges to do more
The Osun State government has disclosed that the newborn baby of a mother with a mental Health Condition has now been kept at a child care home for proper care and monitoring.
The state government said the baby is hale and hearty and can be adopted by individuals who so desire once they meet up with global standard procedure.
The Permanent Secretary, Osun State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde stated this when she received delegates from the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, WBFA, at her office on Monday, December 02, 2025.
The woman with a mental Health Condition delivered a baby girl on October 21, 2025 in Modakeke, Osun State.
Healthcare workers at the Primary Healthcare Center, Itasin, came to her aide, by evacuating both the mother and child from the street and provided the necessary medical treatment.
The Wellbeing Foundation Africa subsequently stepped in to ensure the proper hand over of the child to the state government to prevent any untoward development and ensure adequate care.
Speaking during the visit, WBFA National Programs Lead, Mr Kehinde Akinsola, stated that the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) is a leading maternal, newborn, and child health organisation dedicated to strengthening healthcare systems, improving health outcomes, and promoting social protection for women, children, and communities across Nigeria.

“Through evidence-based programs, frontline capacity-building, and strong government partnerships, WBFA ensures that families have the knowledge, skills, and support needed to live healthier and safer lives.
“Our midwife who delivers our Mamacare 360 classes in the healthcare facility informed us about the development and we had to quickly step in to ensure that the newborn is protected and taken care of.
“That was why we notified the top government officials and wrote to the appropriate offices, and we’re glad that they heed our call to ensure the baby is in safe hands, especially because some people were already coming forward with the aim to claim the child without any legitimate backing.
“We appreciate the role played by the Ministry, the Primary Healthcare Board, the healthcare workers at PHC Itasin, and the Ogunsua of Modakeke, His Royal Majesty Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola for also intervening at a time,” he said.
Responding, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde commended WBFA for the role the NGO played in notifying the appropriate authority and also monitoring the situation.
She noted that the child is now safe at an undisclosed child care home and is being given the appropriate care needed.
Also speaking, the Director, Social Welfare, DSW, at the Ministry, Mr Akande disclosed that the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs took over the care of the child. The DSW noted that the Ministry adheres to UNICEF guideline, to guarantee the child’s right to life, home and proper wellbeing.

He lauded WBFA for its role in the welfare of mothers and children, noting that their intervention ensured the safety of mother and child, unlike two similar cases before now.
He also sought further partnership from the NGO, founded by H.E. Toyin Saraki.
Wellbeing Foundation Africa also presented baby items to the ministry as part of its donations towards the care of the baby.
The foundation as part of efforts to motivate health workers, also presented Certificate of Commendation to the healthcare workers who aided in the care and wellbeing of the baby at the Itasin PHC.
Akinsola, said the Award “is in recognition of their exemplary compassion, dedication and professionalism in providing humanitarian service upholding the highest standards of maternal and child care with exceptional integrity that aligns with Wellbeing Foundation Africa’s mission of advancing the survival, health and wellbeing of women, infants and families.”
