Gbenga Hashim Eulogizes Ilorin Chief Imam, Commiserates with Emir, Kwarans

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Presidential Candidate Dr Gbenga Hashim, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Soliu Bashir, describing his death as a profound loss to Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, and the entire Muslim Ummah.

In a condolence message issued on Thursday, Dr Hashim extended his sympathies to the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR; the Ilorin Emirate Council; the family of the deceased; the Government of Kwara State led by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; and the people of Ilorin Emirate.

According to him, the late Chief Imam was a revered religious leader whose life was defined by service to Allah, moral authority, and unwavering commitment to peace, moderation, and unity.

“Sheikh Muhammad Soliu Bashir was a steadfast voice of calm and moral clarity in moments of tension. His teachings, conduct, and counsel reflected the finest traditions of Islamic scholarship and spiritual leadership,” Hashim stated.

He noted that the cleric’s humility, wisdom, and sense of responsibility earned him respect across generations and social divides, adding that his influence extended beyond Ilorin Emirate to the wider society.

Dr Hashim further said the late Chief Imam would be remembered for his consistent advocacy for peaceful coexistence and harmony, stressing that his contributions to the spiritual and social stability of Ilorin Emirate were enduring and invaluable.

“As we mourn this great loss, we also thank Almighty Allah for a life well spent in the service of faith and humanity,” he said.

The PDP chieftain prayed that God would comfort and strengthen the Emir of Ilorin, the Ilorin Emirate Council, the bereaved family, and the entire Muslim Ummah.

Sheikh Muhammad Soliu Bashir, until his death, served as the Chief Imam of Ilorin and was widely regarded as a symbol of unity, tolerance, and spiritual guidance within the Emirate.
