State actors float ‘Atunto Osun’ for political, economic transformation

The people of Osun across party, religious and cultural affiliations on Thursday converged at the Freedom Park in Osogbo, the state capital, to present a united front with the formation of a movement tagged, “Atunto Osun” (Resetting Osun).

Atunto Osun aims to install better governance in Osun through a dedicated participation devoid of political, religious or cultural leanings.

The movement, which is open to both indigenes and non-indigenes in Osun state, also launched a co-operative society for economic benefits of the less privileged.

The movement attracted political leaders from different parties to include the All Progressives Congress, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the Accord Party, and residents from all local government areas of Osun state.

Speaking at the well attended event, Chieftain of the PDP, and former Governorship aspirant in Osun, Prince Dotun Babayemi, expressed concern over the standard of living in the state.

Babayemi explained that the gathering is a convergence of likeminded individuals who are out for the good of the people, especially the common man.

He said the platform avails the people the opportunity to reposition the State of the living spring politically and offers soft loan for economic survival.

“When the government that should make life easy for the citizenry fails to play its role, and the people are left with no choice than to come together to design a way for their survival, then we must know there’s something lacking in governance.

“As you can see, those here are not the elitist class. Most of those here are the common people in the state. They have decided to come together to form a co-operative society. What we are doing is to give them a platform,” he said.

Other speakers from various political parties said although, various governments have implemented various policies and programs, yet the state still lags behind.

They stated that the compelling need to change the ugly narrative, led to the conception of Atunto Osun which is expected to serve as a conveyor belt for a new worthy take off both politically and economically.

The dignitaries, who took turn to speak, therefore hailed the initiative and lauded Babayemi for his selfless efforts towards improving lives.

They noted that his philanthropic gesture is a proof that if given the chance, he would do more to make life better for the people of Osun state. 

Some of the dignitaries at the event include a former Deputy Governorship Aspirant of the Accord Party, Kunle Jimoh, Segun Odekunmi, Alh. Remi Arogundade and Hon. Bamde Falade.

Others are Barr Ojo Williams, Hon Baba Boogun, Chief Debo Adeyemi and Senior Apostle Victor Ashaolu.
