Tension is rising in Afon community following the failure of police to arrest a herdsman who allegedly attacked a popular farm worker known as “More Blessings.”
The victim sustained serious injuries after being assaulted with a cutlass in an incident that occurred on Friday, according to community sources and eyewitness accounts.
Residents said the attack occurred when the herdsman allegedly invaded the farmer’s land with his cattle while he was working.
The victim reportedly confronted the herdsman and asked him to remove his cows from the farm and not return.
In response, the herdsman allegedly attacked him with a cutlass, inflicting severe injuries.
The incident was promptly reported to the police, while the victim was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment. He survived the attack and is currently receiving medical care.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the police in Afon have yet to make any arrest, even though the culprit is known and living in an area known as oke abere in Afon, a development that has sparked concern and frustration among residents.
Community members described the attack as unprovoked and alarming, noting that the identity of the assailant is widely known within the area.
There has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the incident.
The development has renewed concerns over insecurity in rural communities across Kwara State, with residents calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further attacks.
Community leaders have appealed for calm while demanding swift action from authorities to apprehend the suspect and strengthen security across farming settlements.
