Hundreds of women supporters and political loyalists on Tuesday stormed the airport in Ilorin to welcome APC House of Representatives aspirant for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, Hajia Mopelola AbdulMalik Bashir, popularly known as Mopelola-Eleniyan, following her return from Abuja after the party’s screening exercise.
The atmosphere around the airport was electrifying as women groups, youths, party supporters, and grassroots mobilizers gathered in large numbers, chanting solidarity songs and waving banners in support of the former commissioner.
Observers described the reception as one of the clearest public demonstrations yet of Mopelola’s growing grassroots influence within the constituency ahead of the 2027 political contest.
Supporters of the APC aspirant hailed her successful screening in Abuja as a major step forward in what they described as a movement to deepen the ideals of the Otoge political revolution within the constituency.
Many of the women who attended the reception described Mopelola as a symbol of inclusion, loyalty, and grassroots politics, noting that her political journey continues to inspire women participation in leadership across Kwara State.
“She represents hope for women and ordinary people because she understands the struggle,” one supporter said during the reception.
The former Commissioner for Women Affairs and later Commissioner for Water Resources has continued to attract growing political attention following the launch of her digital manifesto themed “A New Touch of Representation.”
Her supporters insist that her aspiration represents more than a political ambition, describing it as part of a broader effort to preserve the values of the Otoge movement and strengthen grassroots driven representation within the constituency.
Mopelola, while appreciating the massive turnout, thanked supporters for their loyalty and confidence in her aspiration, assuring them that she remains committed to people centered leadership, youth empowerment, women inclusion, and practical development across Asa and Ilorin West.
Political observers say the growing public enthusiasm surrounding her candidacy is gradually positioning her as one of the most formidable contenders ahead of the APC primaries.
